THE MET!

Terracotta amphora jar -- Greek ca. 540 B.C. -- earliest preserved case of Greek potter Andolcides.
I chose to use this piece as my inspiration because this is an extremely early portrayal of warlike images with the horses and chariots. Since my concentration is about global problems, war being one of them, I figured this would be a great piece to showcase how war has evolved from B.C. to the present. The images are really repetitive and caught my eye along with the beautiful worksmanship, so I'll try to go off that and create a really cool piece.

FINALLY REPHOTOGRAPHED! :)
I think it would be really neat to try to incorporate this piece into my concentration (global issues)... maybe something with abortion? still not sure...

Classwork

Artists Statement

Throughout my life I have watched as global problems become more and more prevalent in society. Poverty, war, terrorism, famine, global warming, and disease have ravaged through our nation and those that surround us, forcing us to constantly divert our resources to solving such problems. These happenings in the world and the effect they have on us as humans interest me because I want people to not only be able see what is going on in the world through television (such as broadcasted damage from hurricanes or mudslides), but to view the true extent of the effect of these disasters through my artwork. The lives of children, adults, and the elderly are either ruined or taken away each day, and this cannot continue if we hope for a better future. Drawing inspiration from others in my family, such as my grandpa who served in World War II on the infamous D-Day, and those around me who have experienced the aftermath of global problems, I hope to convey their stories through strong, emotional pieces that leave the viewer with a sense of determination to contribute to ending these torments.

Summer Homework

The torment that children feel as wars against terrorism rage on in countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan is unspeakable. Parents and family members are taken away in an instant, leaving them defenseless. This piece showcases the emotion that these kids feel as fighting surrounds them in their home countries. I still need to go in and rework the background, along with a greater definition in the neck and smoke down towards the bottom.
